It was interesting to read this article about manorexia
this morning and that sheds some light on men and eating disorders. Generally, eating disorders are seen as a heath issue that afflicts women. I was really astounded to hear that someone like Dennis Quaid who seemingly has it all suffers from anorexia.
I have always known that men have body image issues, especially in the gay community. I see it every day at the gym, guys who are pushing themselves harder and harder to get the perfect body and they are totally not interested in anyone who doesn’t live up to their image of what is acceptable. This has come to be termed body fascism.
I have struggled with my weight over the last few years, managing to get back in control for the most part cutting down from 240 pounds to around 190 with about 10 more to go. I’ve found it ironic that I now get checked out by guys who wouldn’t give me the time of day before.
I’m really glad there is more and more coming out about this and always keep in mind that sometimes the best six pack can be found in the fridge.
