With the shocking retirement of Justine Henin, I was at a loss to decide who I wanted to see win the French Open. As the tournament continued, I knew I didn’t want to see Maria Sharapova win it. Dara Safina was playing well but beat my back up fave Elena Dementieva so I couldn’t get behind her. Anna Ivanovic was who I settled on cheering for and grew increasingly impressed at how much she has grown over the year since Henin tore her apart in last year’s final. In what I felt was like a passing of the torch, Henin presented the new champion and come Monday the new World Number 1 with the trophy. I’m hoping its a good oman for Roger Federer for tomorrow’s mens final. Could there be 2 new champs this year?
