Social Media

Last night I went to a seminar on social media marketing strategy that was presented by Darren Barefoot of Capulet Communications. I had kind of hit a wall in some of the efforts I had been working on and left feeling very energized.

Social media marketing is such a double edge sword. The upside is so great since you can build a buzz about your product service but on the other hand you can also lose control of your message. It really hit home for me one of the key messages he had about being honest and transparent.

I’m no stranger to blogs having a personal one before blogs were cool and dropping it a few years ago because I started to feel the personal blog was so 5 minutes ago. Now I find I get a great deal of information from topical blogs. And even now there are so many other cool venues for user generated media.

One of the cool things he mentioned was this new Alanis Morisette video. What is that girl up to? Almost 3 million views at the time I post this.

When I was discussing one of my ideas with a colleague he mentioned Meta Cafe as a possible venue for an idea I have. I spent some time on it today and have to say I really enjoyed the Cafe Confidential contest and the Craziest Day At Work ones really cracked me up.

Its a good thing its a long weekend so I can spend some time working on ideas.
